Seagate GoFlex Home NAS has torrent client called Transmission inbuilt but not enabled by default. It is very convenient to have torrent client running on NAS so that we need not have laptop powered on the whole night to do larger downloads. Steps to unlock Transmission: – SSH into the NAS. Use a terminal on Mac OS X or Linux. This video is over FOUR years old. Amigaos 4.1 iso. I set this up FOUR years ago. I do not work for Seagate nor can I answer your questions about technical aspects of the dev. The best thing about the GoFlex Home was that that if you forgot your password or acquired a unit with unknown user credentials or just messed things up too badly using ssh, then you could always reflash the firmware and start over with a GoFlex Home just like one straight from the factory. But reflashing wipes out all user accounts and you need to set up the first user over the internet.

Just as some background... I have 2 of these Seagate GoFlex Home NAS devices. A 1Tb version, and a 2TB version.
Lately the 1TB version has been giving me issues with logging in. I have it as a mapped network drive which should up under My Computer. It (and the other 3 NAS drives) show as disconnected when I first look at them. Seagate NAS 2TB and the 2 disks on my DLink DNS323 connect as soon as I clcik on them, and I can view files no problem.
THe 1TB Seagate asks for authentication, despite the credentials already saved. It should just open right away as the other 3 drives do. When I enter my PW, I get refused.
- I know my login UNAME and PWORD.
- I can access the server from the static IP I set.
- When I click on Seagate Share (this is through the web interface) it brings up the directories and ultimately the files on the NAS no problem. Then.. if I click on the mapped network drive I can access the files.
I shouldn't have to open a browser, and login to the server first. I don't have to do that on the 2TB device, and never has to do this before. I don't know what has changed to cause this behaviour.
Would appreciate some insight.
I'm concerned that the device or the drive may be going bad.. but I have no direct eveidence of that, just some quirky login behaviour.
Thanks

Bump.

I am now using a USB 2.0 interface with my GoFlex enabling it to mount, but the 3.0 connection is simply not working!

Any comments, tips or suggestions? I will of course be buying a new HD and trying to get my $ back for the GoFlex but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Are there other suggestions for a 3.0 portable external that will 100% certainly work with the new mac USB 3.0 ports? I have a sordid and hellish history with WD so I'm apt to opt away from them. They have a history of sudden failure that I'm aware of by way of personal experience.

What about Iomegas?

Or am I better off building my own?

I think it's the drivers etc that are getting in the way, so maybe a very simple 2.5' HD with a seagate esata to 3.0 cable in a generic enclosure would do the trick?

Thoughts anyone?

“I backup all my important data in Seagate FreeAgent Goflex external hard disk which has a capacity of 60GB. Today all of a sudden, this device is not getting detected on my Mac. I tried to get files from it by connecting it to other computers, which didn’t work. If anyone has an idea on how to restore data from Seagate FreeAgent Goflex on Mac system, then please share with me. Thanks in advance!!!”

FreeAgent Goflex is an external hard disk newly introduced by Seagate. This drive is available in the range of 60GB to 3TB capacity. Seagate also manufactures other models of hard drive like FreeAgent Desk, FreeAgent Go, FreeAgent Pro, etc. The reason for above kind of situation might be that your FreeAgent Goflex got corrupted. Now think once, what will happen if you suddenly lose access to your FreeAgent Goflex due to its corruption?

  • If lost data is the only backup of your important files, then it’s a big challenge
  • If it contains any PPT’s or any office files that you need urgently, then your situation would be very worse
  • If your Mac system is already dead and it is the only backup that you got
